How Good is Latex Foam in a Mattress?

Latex foam is a premium mattress product with a soft and rubbery like feel. Latex foam is a breathable, cool product that serves well as the top layer of a mattress, the layer that is closest to your body. If comfort and support is what you want, Latex is very comfortable. It works and it lasts.

So How is Latex Foam Made?

This is a bit costlier product that we can truly call eco-friendly as it comes from the sap of the rubber tree. U.S. manufacturing plants and Malaysian plants both produce Latex Foam. Fast forward to the end of the manufacturing process and you will find a simple pour mold that accepts the liquid latex. The pre-formed latex "batter", which is free from harmful chemicals and free from poly-urethane additives, is poured into selective thicknesses. The molds are allowed to heat/cure and dry into mattress size slabs yielding soft and firmer densities.

In contrast to Latex Foam and sometimes layered together, there are poly-urethane foams. Although many types of poly-urethane foams exist, the most common type is for seat, sofa, and mattress products. And, most poly-urethane foam is a plastic polymer made from polyols, TDI, and MDI. Poly is produced in many different densities with the firmer densities used on a bottom layer for support and the lighter densities used in a top layer delayed reaction comfort.

Latex has a more robust cell structure than poly which gives supportive reactive comfort and additional longevity with a cooler sleep surface. Of course, this blog isn't a study on elastomeric strength and cellular structure as it relates to improved thermal conductivity (there's wiki for that), just know Latex is better for mattresses.

Give Latex a try if you are looking for long lasting support, a cooler feel, and comfort like no other.
